Background to the Project : There was a pressing need to assess the pattern of overflow and resultant flooding of the mighty Bhramaputra and Its tributaries, before It actually occurs, so that prevention and control measures could be taken well in time. Hence, a wide span hangar needed to be erected to give a clear space for geographical simulation of tributaries of the Brahmaputra. A very large clear span of 48 meters was essential so that true 'to-scale' models of the river could be developed across a large width.
