
Tata Steel has participated in 2010 SPJIMR Marketing Impact Awards (SMIA) with the case study, “Commodities to Brands – Shaping The Market” which provides insight as to how its 2 brands – Tata Structura and Galvano have pioneered in shaping the Indian markets. While Tata Structura, the brand of steel hollow sections (SHS), from the Tubes SBU has been in the forefront of the Indian construction space – Redefining the Indian landscape by incorporation in the modern airports, commercial spaces, buildings and the industrial warehouses, Galvano has pioneered a similar effort in the general engineering sector. TUBES SBU launched the second Tata Structura Studio in Guwahati on 25th Nov 2010. Mr Rajiv Mangal, Executive-In-Charge, Tubes SBU inaugurated the studio at SM Corporation Ltd., Guwahati, the Business Development Partner for Tata Structura in North East. The event was graced by Mr Kulvin Suri, Chief Marketing & Sales, Tubes SBU, Mr. Siddharth Mishra, Regional Sales Manager-East, Tubes SBU and renowned architects and structural engineers of North East. It is the second Tata Structura Studio in Eastern Region and third in country. A Press Conference was organized and local media participated in the meet. The Inauguration was covered by all the newspapers in Guwahati.
Tata Structura Studio is a unique concept, to facilitate the execution of world-class steel structures using Tata Structura which is the highest selling brand of Rectangular & Square hollow sections in North East. The Tata Structura Studio has been conceived as a knowledge centre and an one-stop solution for all Design and Fabrication needs. Architects and Engineers can also make use of the facilities for explaining the nuances of a project to their clients and also attend experience sharing sessions to enhance their knowledge base. "

As a tribute to Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata or JRD, a business icon known for his perfection in every sphere of activity, the 16th annual JRD Quality Value Award was celebrated at Jamshed Bhabha Theatre on 29th July 2010. This is an annual award function planned on the birth anniversary of Mr. JRD Tata wherein companies who cross certain milestones in their business excellence journey are being recognized.
In a glittering ceremony held at Mumbai, TATA Steel’s Tubes SBU became proud winner of the 16th JRD QV Award amidst a total entry of 90 TATA Group companies. This prestigious award is given to a group company which has excelled in business performance following the Tata Business Excellence Model. Tubes SBU achieved a score of 610 and won the JRD QV award for the year 2010 for having crossed the 600 mark for the first time. The SBU joins an elite band of companies/ divisions who crossed the 600 mark line in the past. Notable among those are TATA Steel, TCS, TATA Motors, TELCON, Tinplate Co of India, TATA Chemicals & TITAN.
The Business Excellence journey at Tubes Division began in 2001. For the last 5 years the unit was placed in the 550 to 650 band, narrowly missing the 600 mark each time. It came closest last year when the assessors pegged the Strategic Business Unit at 590 points.
Mr. H M Nerurkar, Managing Director of TATA Steel received the award on behalf of Tubes SBU from the group chairman, Mr. Ratan N Tata.
Mr. Nerurkar congratulated the Strategic Business Unit, all its Channel partners and the leadership team at the TATA Workers’ Union, for providing an unstinted support by adopting new practices in this challenging environment.
